This project was Law’s first public art project – for an electrical substation in downtown Seattle near the iconic Space Needle. She joined the design team with Arai Jackson Architects, looking at the design of entire substation. The project added a new triangular yard adjacent to the existing yard with more typical electrical equipment. Law’s involvement allowed the yards to become more transparent. She suggested turning the necessary barrier fencing into a more fliagreed, light screening element. While at the same time honoring the very urban site. Law further embellished the fencing on the side viewed by cars into a shimmering, folding visual energy field as they moved by. On the pedestrian side she added a pictographic narrative that alluded to the purpose of the substation. The project received an award of merit from the Seattle Design Commission and an award for creative use of chain link.
