The overpass had already been designed when Law was contacted for the project. She decided to work with the most flexible component, the barrier fencing and completely redesigned it. Within the parameters of safety concerns, the fencing structure imparted a fluid, moving sense to the static overpass, one that changed character depending on one’s approach direction, whether one was on the overpass, or passing under it, and the time of day.

The fencing stands in relation to the surrounding landscape of woods, distant valley, and mountains. The color scheme accentuates the brightness of the structure that is exposed to the changing weather and light and the coolness of the passage underneath.

A fencing sub-contractor built the fence.
